Kirk Ware, a 26 year resident of Westford, announces his candidacy for Westford's Board of Selectmen in the upcoming May, 2008 election. Kirk and his wife Linda, of Granada Drive have three grown children who all attended the Westford Public Schools. A dedicated and active volunteer in many aspects of Westford life over the last 15 years, Ware brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Selectmen's race.
Kirk is a graduate of Wheaton College (Ill.) where he earned a degree in Literature. Kirk also attained a law degree from Boston University School of Law in 1979. Since then he has practiced law and developed numerous environmentally conscious commercial and residential projects in Massachusetts, Florida, Texas and Canada. In recent years he has served as a consultant to non profit organizations on their real estate projects.
Kirk has served on the Commission for Efficient Town Government, the Permanent School Building Committee, the Land Use Priorities Committee, the School Site Selection Committee (Chair), the Stony Brook Master Plan Committee, the East Boston Camps Master Plan Committee (Chair), and the J.V. Fletcher Library Community Visioning and Planning Committee. He has also served as a soccer coach and swim instructor here in Westford.
During Kirk's tenure on the Land Use Priorities Committee, that group recommended the creation of the Westford Land Preservation Foundation, as an agent for the preservation of open space within the community. Kirk recently partnered with the Foundation in the first limited development project in Westford. Originally proposed as a ten to twelve lot subdivision, Kirk's joint venture with the foundation cut that number back to six houses on five plus acres of land, with the remaining 12 plus acres donated to the Town of Westford for conservation purposes. Kirk has been an active member of the Permanent School Building Committee during the planning and construction phases of the Crisafulli, Miller, and Stony Brook schools as well as the additions at the Nabnasset School and Westford Academy. His business acumen, planning skills and construction knowledge have been a tremendous asset to each of the committees on which he has served.
Kirk believes in the spirit of volunteerism unique to Westford and the value of volunteers to our Community. He is committed to supporting our seniors, our schools and our businesses as well as working for efficient and effective use of our tax dollars. "Along with many incredible volunteers, I've had the pleasure of serving our Town in numerous capacities. Westford is frequently faced with momentous decisions that will significantly impact our way of life and require careful, responsible decision making. I'm confident I can bring that to the process".
